SMW Tooltip Link Test
This page demonstrates SMW issue #5494: wiki markup inside property descriptions does not reliably render as links in the hover tooltip popup. Companion page for the resource-loading bug: SMW Tooltip Test.
User-defined property with links in its description
The description of Tooltip link property contains an external and an internal link in wiki markup. Hover these and look at the popup text:
- Via in-text annotation: Tooltip link property
- Via parser function: Tooltip link property
Expected: the popup shows the description with two clickable links. Actual on this wiki (current SMW master): the links happen to work, but only because the tooltip text sits in the parsed page and the page parser renders the markup on its way through. On SMW 4.x the popup showed the raw markup instead, and any surface whose tooltip text does not pass through a page parse still shows raw markup.
Predefined property
The description of a predefined property comes from an interface message that also contains an external link:
- Via in-text annotation: Modification date
- Via parser function: Modification date
Expected: the popup ends with a clickable "Semantic MediaWiki" link. Actual: the link comes out broken. The description is pre-rendered to HTML, the transport escapes the markup into the tooltip text, and the page parser then linkifies the now-visible URL a second time, nesting one link inside the other. The popup shows a duplicated, misnested link.
Where the same defect shows up
- The property page Attribut:Tooltip link property and any listing that shows property descriptions in tooltips.
